Domaines Henri Martin is a family-owned Bordeaux producer whose identity is inseparable from the vision and determination of its founder. Born at Château Gruaud-Larose in 1903, Henri Martin was the son of a cooper and the grandson of a cellar master. Rather than inheriting a celebrated estate, he used his knowledge of the Médoc to build an exceptional portfolio parcel by parcel.

Henri Martin’s defining creation
Château Gloria became the defining achievement of Henri Martin’s career. Beginning with a single hectare in the late 1930s, he gradually assembled approximately 50 hectares of vineyards, acquiring individual parcels primarily from classified estates in Saint-Julien and Pauillac.
The name Château Gloria was registered in 1942, when Martin also completed an important purchase of six hectares from Château Duhart-Milon. Over time, the vineyard expanded across a diverse range of Saint-Julien soils and microclimates. Although Gloria was created too late to appear in the 1855 Classification, its vineyard origins and consistent quality have established it among the appellation’s most recognised estates.
Three complementary Bordeaux estates
- Château Gloria: A 50-hectare Saint-Julien estate assembled from parcels formerly belonging to several classified growths. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The property has been certified organic since the 2024 vintage.
- Château Saint-Pierre: Acquired and reunited by Henri Martin in the early 1980s, this 17-hectare Fourth Growth is one of Saint-Julien’s smallest classified estates. Its vines average around 60 years of age, and its Cabernet-dominant wines are known for dark-fruited intensity, mineral depth and structured elegance.
- Château Bel Air Gloria: Acquired in 1980 and situated in Cussac-Fort-Médoc near the Gironde, this Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois receives the same detailed vineyard management as the family’s Saint-Julien properties. Its Cabernet-led wines combine classic Médoc structure with approachability and freshness.
Family continuity and modern viticulture
Today, Henri Martin’s legacy is continued by his daughter Françoise, his son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud and their children Vanessa and Jean. The family combines traditional Bordeaux vinification with detailed parcel selection, environmental certification, organic farming and selected biodynamic principles.
Each estate retains its own identity, but all share a recognisable philosophy: respect for terroir, Cabernet Sauvignon as the structural foundation and a commitment to producing balanced, expressive wines capable of developing gracefully in bottle. Domaines Henri Martin therefore represents both an extraordinary Médoc family story and a distinctive expression of Saint-Julien’s winemaking heritage.
