Five Generations of Family Stewardship

The Nicolas family acquired Château La Conseillante in 1871 and has maintained unbroken ownership across five generations. The property's name is believed to derive from Catherine Conseillan, a local figure associated with the estate before the Nicolas family era. The Eastern Plateau

La Conseillante's vineyards occupy a privileged position on Pomerol's eastern plateau, where the appellation's characteristic clay soils deepen over a substratum of gravel. The estate lies within metres of the Saint-Émilion border and shares a boundary with Château Cheval Blanc, one of Bordeaux's most celebrated Premier Grand Cru Classé estates. Merlot dominates the plantings, typically representing around 80 per cent of the vineyard, with Cabernet Franc completing the blend. The proportion of Cabernet Franc is higher than at many Pomerol properties, contributing aromatic lift, floral complexity and a fine, persistent tannic structure to the Grand Vin.
